First post, so hi all :)

Was looking on some advice. Im a little bit rusty as its been a while since I built my last PC, and not really up with the times

My currently spec :

i7 920 @ 3.8 GHz
Gigabyte X58A UD3R motherboard
Corsair H80 cooler
12gb DDR3
Nvidia 690 GTX 4GB
Samsung 830 256gb SSD
2x 300gb Velcoiraptors Raid0
Tagan 1300w Modular PSU
Dell Ultrasharp 2711

It plays most things maxed out at 2560x1440, but struggles with Titanfall with Insane textures, I sometimes get some spikes in BF4

Been looking at new CPU, mobo and ram combinations, but Im thinking the gains wont be massive.

So was going to sell the 690 and opt for the R9 295x2, as I think the only think i'm struggling with is the amount of ram on the 690 as its only 2gb DDR5 per gpu, and will only get worse when Im up at 4k resolutions

Am I correct, or do I need to re think my whole setup

Any help would great

Despite what you think yes a new CPU/Mobo/Ram combo will be a gain, most the chips clock well above 4GHz too. I'd say the GPU while possibly Vram limited (Remember its an SLI card it actually only has 2GB of usable Vram) wont really be that much of a problem.

But I can tell you a new 4770k will be a nice gain! and possibly unleash a bit more power from your 690.
Once you have done the CPU/Mobo/Ram find out how it play's and if you feel the 690 is holding you back then look at a pair of 290/x's or 780/ti's depending on if you like Nvidia or AMD features (personally been looking at these, they are tasty for the price and would serve 4k nicely: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-114-GI&groupid=701&catid=1914&subcat=1341 )

Your slightly mad getting a 4k monitor before having a rig ready for it :D but I'm a bit jealous there ;)

Feel free to change board based on colours, and ram but roughly something like this:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £245.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-OC Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £149.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £74.99
Total : £480.56 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Could save £10 here n there by getting OEM CPU (Without heatsink and less warranty) and getting cheaper ram sticks but I can vouch for the ones I picked as I use them

And If I had the money and need for it then I would probably go with this:

Personally I would get 2 GPU's first and see how it runs, as above 290/x's or 780/ti's or as you said the 295x2 and see how it runs.
Then if you arent happy with it go for cpu/mobo/ram

I honestly believe CPU would be a better investment first, the 690 is still a brilliant card , OP have a look at your GPU usage if its not in the 95-99% range 24/7 on demanding games, then your CPU is holding you back.

He may well be bottlenecked, but 4K will probably change that :p and that 2GB VRAM will kill him at 4K, an i7 4770K's not going to do diddly.

He should sell the 690, and personally I'd get two or 3 R9 290's, screw the 295X :p

Now more confused than I started............:D

Dont really have a budget, so can go a bit crazy, but I dont want to throw my money away unnecessarily

So you reckon new i7 and mobo, which in turn means new ram, as Im using tri channel at the mo

Then decide on a gcard. Im leaning towards a 295x2, as I do think the 690s vram wont be sufficient.

Im basically buying a new PC then :/...............

Not sure what the ':/' is for, those two statements are cause for celebration! :D

The 295x2 is overpriced as hell.
I wouldn't get that at any cost really.

I'd just get 2 R9 290's for now, try them with the 4K screen, go from there.
