I have dusted off the cobwebs on my Mac Mini and am wanting to use it for video / photo editing.

At moment it has 512 Mb PC3200 RAM
80Gb HDD
1.42 GHz CPU
MAC OS X 10.3.9

To use it for video editing / itunes / photo storage I would like to upgrade the hard drive and RAM.

I have decided to go for a 250Gb Western Digital Scorpio (2.5") HDD but I am unsure what memory I need. I would like to have 2GB of RAM but I have a couple of questions:
Is 2GB adequate / Am i able to put 2Gb into the system?
Also, what memory do i need?
OC is selling Crucial 2x1Gb DDR2 PC2-5300 SODIMM under the Mac Mini Memory section - would I be able to install this (not sure if it will support PC2-5300)

Also, if possible I would like to install Leopard once I have upgraded, would the system be upto it?

That's a G4 Mac Mini isn't it? I *think* there's only one memory slot in it. Plus it's a DIMM not a SO-DIMM. You best check up on that first though just in case.

That means that it takes DDR, PC2700 or better.

EDIT: It looks like you're limited to 1024 MiB per slot. Since you've got one slot a gig is all you can get.

Just found that out now from Crucial website. Ordered 1 stick of 1024.

Would the hard drive be ok for this system and would Leopard install and run ok ?

I don't know about the HDD, but I assume it'll take any PATA 2.5" disk without a problem. Leopard will run on it. I run it on a dual 1 GHz G4 PowerMac with a gig and a half RAM and it runs acceptably well. It can get sluggish at times though, owing to the machine's lack of 3D graphical prowess.
