Have been thinking of upgrading my 8800GTS to something a bit more current. I don't follow hardware very much at all and just upgrade every few years.

Current specs are:

8800GTS
Dell 2007wfp @ 1680x1050 which I plan to upgrade to something at 1900x1080 (think thats what a 22" runs at)
Enermax Liberty 500w
Intel Q6600 on a Asus P5K-E board.

Ideally I'd like to keep my CPU and board but I'm guessing I'll need a new PSU. First of all will my current CPU allow me to get a decent upgrade of a card without being a huge bottleneck? As far as price goes maybe around £150 then whatever for a decent PSU if needed on top of that. I'm hoping something around the £150 mark should get me a fairly decent improvement over my current card.

Any advice on card and PSU most welcome.

Anyone can shed a bit of light on what I could go for? Around the £150 mark I see HD5850, HD6870, GTX470 & GTX560 but I really don't know which offers the best performance. Really am fairly clueless with whats out there. Any help most appreciated.

You don't need a better PSU than that, not for a single card setup anyway.

I would say out of those four cards, go for the Geforce GTX470.

Really appreciate your input there guys, thank you. Seems the 6870 on pre-order is what you'd recommend although sr4470, you'd prefer the 480. Think I've always had nvidia cards so a bit of a change should I order the 6870. Great news that my PSU is still able to handle things, I've had it for what seems like ages and it hasn't missed a beat.

@fowler002, my CPU isn't oced which is probably a bit of a crime in itself as I remember getting it with the purpose to do that but then just let it run at stock.

Thanks again folks, always value your advice.

I said the 470, although if you can get the HD6870 as cheap as the offer these guys referred to then go for it.

I have a system very similar to yours (8800GTS and a Core 2 Duo @ 2.67GHZ, but as of tomorrow I might be getting a Q6600 off a friend). I've just taken a punt and ordered this so Im hoping this will give me a decent performance boost.
