Upgrade advice (Gaming)

So I’ll cut to the chase, I know my system is due an upgrade but I’m not sure what to prioritise, my system is as follows:

MOBO - MSI Z97 Gaming 5
GPU - GTX 970 Twin Frozr
CPU - i5 4690k
16GB Ram (Corsair vengeance)

my power supply is a 750w Corsair one so I’m pretty sure I’m safe with that for a while, if there are important components I’ve left out please let me know

Good point, how much would I need to spend for the upgrade to be worth it? I have a limited budget, ideally I don’t want to spend more than £500 in total but I will if I need to in order to make the upgrade worth it, I also only use the PC for gaming

I’ve got an SSD for my operating system but only enough storage for that, would I really need to upgrade the MOBO & RAM too? I always hear anything over 16GB is usually excess for gaming or has that changed now?
