Upgrade advice - HD5770?

I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card for the new WoW expansion, as I realised the other day that my current setup (with a X1950XT) is only able to run the game at "fair" settings, which is no.2 on a scale from 1 to 6!

Current system is an Abit AW9D-Max motherboard, Core2 Duo E6400, 2Gb ram, X1950XT, Corsair HX520W psu.

I don't really play any other games than WoW on my PC - I use my PS3 for other games.

I was thinking of getting a GTX460 768Mb, but now I'm thinking I should perhaps go for an HD5770 1Gb. That way, if I need a performance boost I can crossfire with another 5770 on my mobo, and it's cheaper, although not quite as fast from what i've read.

Not 100% sure that my motherboard will run it though... the gfx cards are PCI-e 2.0, but I don't know whether my mobo is 2.0 or 1.1?

Can anyone tell me if the HD5770 will run ok in my system? And am I likely to be able to max out the graphics in WoW? (I know i could probably do with another 2Gb of ram)

Cheers!

If you overclock ur cpu u should be ok with a 5770. ATM id go for a 5850. Pcie are backwards comoatible. A 5770 will probably max out all settings.

I'd go with a 5770 and buy some more system memory, less than 4GB means WoW will run like a three legged dog.

I run mine with details set to high & ultra apart from shadows which are turned down at 1920x1200, 6GB RAM, [email protected] and 5770 1GB, never really have any issue except when first loading, but most people get that.

The dual 5770 idea was for the future, not right now, so although a 5870 is cheaper than 2 x 5770, it's more than i want to spend to play WoW.

As long as the 5770 will work in my current mobo, then i think i'll go with that - it's the cheapest of the options, and the general consensus seems to be that it will be quite adequate for WoW. I'll grab another 2Gb of ram some point soon to help out as well, and perhaps OC my cpu a bit.

Thanks for the input :)
