Hi guys, I'm out of the loop re: current tech so looking for some advice! I'm hoping to upgrade my PC, ideally using some current components.
I use the PC mainly for gaming, but also some hobby level Video editing and occasional work (adobe suite)
I have a 1080p monitor and also a 4k monitor which will stay. I much prefer the IQ on the 4k and use it 95% of the time, inc gaming (which is the main problem / strain due to my gpu!) however, I mainly play total war games and don't need to play AAA FPS games on max settings 60FPS
I also notice that the 4gb memory on the gtx980 is bare minimum to do any light video editing- definitely a bottleneck.
Current system:
Plenty of nice fast ssds for storage and Windows so that'll stay
Z170 board with i7-6700k @4.5ghz
32GB corsair vengeance DDR4 3200
Antec Truepower 650w PSU- this is rock solid but at least 5 years old now- happy to upgrade this if needed as I can use this one in a work PC.
GTX980
I'm aware that GPU prices are currently terrible so will look at 2nd hand on that if needed (e.g. I was originally looking at just trying to get a2nd hand 080ti £250ish quid as a quick upgrade).
Can you fine folk let me know if there's a way to get a significant upgrade for about £500- e.g. is there a mobo/cpu combo that can use the DDR4 I've already got, paired with a 2nd hand GPU maybe?
What about if the budget was £800- I'd definitely want that to include a petty significant GPU and CPU upgrade over what I have, but don't expect it to be top of the range.
Or is there basically no hope of a decent upgrade for less than a grand?!
Many thanks!
