Hi Guys im looking for some advice on a upgrade IT Must be Mini itx

My current parts i want to upgrade are (if a upgrade is worth it)

Z97I AC INTEL Z97 (SOCKET 1150) DDR3 MINI ITX MOTHERBOARD
I5 4690K
16gb DDR 3 ram i think its 1600 mhz not too sure

I use my machine for browsing and heavy gaming.

I currently have a 1070 and a 650W EVGA SuperNOVA G2 PSU SSD and a few TB hard drives so im ok with those for now.

Im looking for a decent upgrade on mobo, cpu and ram BUT it must be a Mini ITX as i have a mini itx case and its in my living room linked to my OLED.

All help is appreciated.

My 1070 cant really game at 4K, im getting a lot of drop outs even at 1080p on resident evil 2 dropping below 60 fps so i am assuming its my mobo cpu and ram thats the issue, i get a lot of drop frames on games so im wanting to eliminate that.

Would that cpu help ? its an I7 yea ?

your 1070 can't game at 4k because it's not a 4k-capable card lol, not for the latest AAA titles :D

parts you need to look through (same article):

yea im aware of that i was kinda saying no to 4k gaming as my card isnt capable lol so 1440p and 1080p is my max. i just get a lot of frame drops and wondering if a upgrade would be beneficial.

Its not just resident evil i get drops on.

if you look at page 6, you can see that the 4c4t bars are approx equal to the 4c8t bars.
page 7 and 8 shows the 1080p/1440p for the 1070.

but in general, more and more games these days are taking advantage of multithreading...
so investing in a 4770k/4790k wouldn't be a bad shout by any means.

Does mother board and ram make a huge difference in gaming then ?

well you'll need to change mobo if you're getting anything other than the 4770/4790, short answer...not really
long answer - depends on the quality of the board (ie VRMS) - but your z97i ac is pretty decent

ram: 1600 is okay, not the best, but not the worse. may experience slightly more microstutter compared to 2400mhz ddr3 ram, but avg fps won't change.
would it be worth getting 2400mhz ddr3 ram now? no. dead tech. not worth the outlay.

Ok thank you really appreciate your replys so in short my PC is still pretty capable but a cpu upgrade to a 4790k would be beneficial and cost a lot less, how much should i be looking to pay for one as they seem to be around £400 unless i go 2nd hand.

i realise that it would cost a good few hundreds to upgrade mobo ram and cpu to latest gen would i see a huge difference if i upgraded that lot vs my machine now with a 4790k cpu ?

correct. i'm taking about all parts 2nd hand. have a look at the bay and see what they're selling for. :) but on average i'd pay no more than £120-140 for a working 4770k/4970k

not at the moment, and also any computer with a 4770k/4790k is still a decent system for the next year or so, no point spending big money now, if you can wait.
if ryzen 3000 is going to shake up the market as rumours say it will - then buying anything new now, unless you have to, will leave you with buyers remorse

PS: fwiw i'm running a 3770k with a 1080ti

Thanx tamzzy, They seem to be around £200 on the bay

i havnt really been keeping track of the pc scene since i built my pc so not familiar with ryzen 3000 which i assume is amd.

That maybe too far out of my price range tho. As i assume its gonna be costly

not quite.

apparently the midrange 3600x performs similarly, in cinebench to the i9 9900k which costs USD 499.
even if the prices end up as 10-20% more expensive, it's still miles cheaper than current offerings.

again, these are all rumours, so a large pinch of salt is required.

Ah ok well if runours are in the ballpark then i guess im best off waiting to see what the 3000 series is like before i upgrade then if i cannot get a cheap 4790k
