Hey guys
I am planning to upgrade my system within the next month. One of the reasons for the upgrade is the fact my motherboard is starting to fail. (Spins GPU fan at 100% on most cold boots. Issue doesn't occur on older motherboard with the same components)
MD Phenom II 965 @ 3.6 GHZ
2GB DDR2 800 Ram
Asus M3N/HD-HDMI
Crucial C300 64GB SSD and Maxtor 250GB HDD
LG W2242S 1680x1050 Monitor
Corsair TX750 V2
Msi 7870 Twin Frozr III
My issue is if i change the motherboard i am also going to need new ram. So maybe its worth changing the CPU as well.
I did look at a couple of options:
Buying a 990FX board such as the UD5 or Sabertooth and getting new ram. This would mean using my current CPU and possibly waiting for steamroller to make an appearance. I have been a fan of AMD in all my build would be quite interested to see what the new Steamroller architecture brings.
Jumping ship to intel and buy something current gen. This would mean new CPU, Ram as well as the motherboard.
I have a budget of around 250-350 depending on which option i go for.
