My current system as per signature is a E6600 @ 3.0Ghz and undervolted to 1.2v, it runs nicely and with the recent addition of an SSD the whole system is very responsive.
However a friend who’s pc I look after needs a rebuild as his motherboard is faulty after a power spike, he’s offered to buy my current board, cpu, and ram which gives me the opportunity to upgrade.
My system usage is: 50% gaming, 25% web and office, 20% using vmware workstations for development work, 5% graphics and photo editing
I’m learning towards an Intel rig but need advice on deciding, currently considering going for the following as I don't feel it's the best time for a full on upgrade and this way it gives me a future upgrade for my HTPC...
OCZ Gold Low Voltage 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz
Core i3 530 2.93GHz
and a H55/H57 micro atx board, this would hopefully after an overclock give me a reasonable upgrade for not allot of extra money, roughly it will cost £140 after selling my old parts.
The plan would then be to use it as my main system for say a year and then migrate the parts into my media system, does this sound like a sensible plan or am I better off just going for an i5 750?
Also if I do go for a H55/H57 micro atx board can anyone recommend me a board that definitely supports overclocking and the ability to undervolt the cpu?
Thanks in advance
