I was happy with my PC until recent issues have made me consider updating. I started getting an error on bootup, USB over current. After going through the usual trouble shooting, I've decided to upgrade to get back online.

I have all of the peripherals that I need, so no need to worry about them. Thanks for the advice, guys.

A faulty perpheral could be causing the USB over current error on bootup, but having unplugged all USB from case and also removing the internal headers for the case front etc, I am still getting the over current error.

Reset bios settings? Updated BIOS to latest? Your PC should have no problems with even current games with a few settings turned down at 1440p UW.

Yes to both questions, resetting the bios is something I did as soon as the error first appeared. Then I flashed to the most recent bios and even moved from Win10 to 11.

that's a shame, if still getting usb overcurrent then if you've already done those steps, leaves either the mobo or psu as the issue
i would've said to reuse the case and psu, but now i'm not so sure :(

I'm fine using anything that I already have. Like Tamzzy, I had presumed that the issue was down to the mobo, so thought that updating to an AM5 mobo, cpu and ram would have been ok, but I'm totally out of touch when it comes to the new stuff out there. I hadn't considered the PSU being an issue though.

I guess it depends how much of a faff you want, because potentially you could accidentally take a bad part over.

£2K is enough for a decent build "as is", but seems a waste to not at least re-use the graphics card, for example, so the choice is yours!

anything with power issues, never forget that the psu may also be the culprit.
you'd need to test it with a power tester, but if not i'd err on the side of caution and not use it in a new build

I don't have anything to test the PSU at the moment, but I will get a new one and then test the old once it's off and use it for another build if it's still good. Always have a family member that could do with some free stuff.

£2k is a lot, but I put it up there, so people knew what I was working with. I'm still very happy with my GPU, which is why I've not bothered updating it.

So I guess I'm mainly just looking at new guts, mobo, cpu, ram, plus psu and perhaps a new AIO cooler

Something like this?

I put 48GB in, because you already have 32GB.
