Alright guys.

Im after some input/advice on an upgrade.

Im currently running:

Q6600 @3.2
Abit ip35p
4gig Kingston
Sapphire 4870 1GB
Seagate HDD.

At the end of this month I should have £300-400 spare, and was planning on getting an i5 760/mobo/ram.

But after much reading im now torn between this or getting a new gfx card and an ssd, say Gtx 460 1gb and the 64gig c300.

I mainly play fps and currently mafia 2 @ 1920x1200 and at places its getting a bit choppy. Other uses are net, music, film and photoshop which is fine with current spec.

What are your thoughts?

The graphics card + SSD is the better option. :)

+1

The i5 is great, but if you are mainly gaming then the overclocked Q6600 should hold its own in modern games for a while yet.

If you spend your money on a beefy graphics card and an SSD then you will get better gaming performance (almost all modern games will be bottlenecked by your graphics card, not CPU) and snappier performance in windows and apps.

i`d go for the ssd and graphix card as well.

your gpu is getting to the dated stage, and to be honest your processor is good enough for probably the forseeable future, i.e. at least 1-maybe 2 years.

i had an old 2.66ghz ht pentium and it done alright for the last 3 years. got and i7 930 @4ghz and a good sized 5850 1gb so this will hopefully last another 3-4 years. but all i need to do is upgrade the gpu from now one till at least 6-7 years.

Ok, thanks for all the replys. Unanimous decision on the SSD + GFX upgrade, it does make sense. Now I just need to save my cash till the end of the month :D
