I was thinking about selling my 256mb PNY 8800gt and spending a little extra on another used card, this time a 512mb 8800gt. Would this pose a noticeable performance increase? thanks.

Hmm. Problem is, the PC I built for my brother is almost identical, and even at 1440x900 (as opposed to 1024x768 on my scratched 15" tft 
) it seems to have a lot higher performance on games like Gmod and L4D. Only different parts in his are the PSU (570w Hiper) and Gfx (PNY 9800GT 512mb).

I was tempted to save for a GTX260. I will be upgrading the PSU soon (shame, it's a great PSU, 5 amps short) as I'm trying to silence my PC.

I know it'll be a huge bottleneck (my 8800gt isn't CPU bottlenecked, I've done my research
) but I am planning on upgrading to a Phenom II 920 around the same time. They're compatible with my board but with beta BIOS 1102.

I heard a HD4830 wouldn't be a good upgrade, so why would a HD4770 be

I only picked up this 256mb 8800gt because it was £50 at the time, when they were all about £120. Might leave an upgrade until next year, then go to a GTX280 and Phenom II 920.

I am saving up for a 1440x900 16:10 monitor, yes. I do seem to get about 30fps on FC2 with no AA and everything on medium, is this normal?
EDIT - yes, my card has less bandwidth - normally they have 57.8gb/s but mine has 44.7gb/s.
