Hell guys, need some advice, I am using some old parts to build a pc for a friend, but i will need to buy a CPU, the mobo will take my E6600, so im not sure if to put that in, and buy my self a quad core. or to keep my E6600 and buy a cheapo dual core around £50? Any advice would be great!

You have to charge your mate something? Your current CPU is worth about £40-50.

A Q6600 gets around £100 on fleebay.

Yeh. but isnt it worth getting a Intel Quad Core Q8200 4 x 2.33Ghz 4Mb Cache 1333 FSB Quad Core Processor - OEM for like £117 around that price? brand new?, the reason im doing it for free, is a good mate, and done me many favours. And the parts are just lying there!

There is your problem. X48 boards are rubbish at clocking 45nm quads. I have the same board as you and it will only get my Q9550 to just under 3.7Ghz and even that needs a shedload of NB voltage. It's not the cpu as it does that on stock volts. X48's are fsb limited with 45nm quads.

pastymuncher, cheers for that info, never knew that :s but you think its worth me going from a dual core to a quad? as i will need a cpu soon? might as well get one for my self?

The E6600 is still a good cpu but more and more games are making use of quads these days so you may as well get one now and sell the E6600 while it's still worth something. I had a Q6600 on a X38 board and that would hit 3.8Ghz. Pretty good for a 2.4Ghz cpu and a much better overclock than my Q9550. Keep your eyes peeled for a Q6600/6700 to use with your current board.
