Hi All,

Currently own an X2 based system (in sig) and am looking at a C2D upgrade. I'm only looking to spend £500-550max and was initially interested in getting a 6600, 2GB RAM and a decent mobo that will support future 1333mhz fsb's.

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 (£173.89 inc vat at 17.5%)
Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) (£204.44 inc vat at 17.5%)
Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£152.74)
plus a cooler for the cpu, at the moment I am erring towards an AC 7.

I guess really I'd like to know what you think of the mobo / Ram options I ahve looked at? Are there cheaper options that may perform better? Is the P5N32-E definetly a 680 board as the plus version uses a 650 chipset?

Thanks In advance for your help

You could get some GeIL DDR2 6400 for around £145, would offer you similar performance for a little cheaper the GeIL clocks quite well too. Another option would be a Gigabyte DS3 coupled with the GeIL they would clock excellent with CPU too.

Good motherboard, CPU selections. I would go for something like a Tuniq Tower, Thermalright Ultra-120 or HR-01 for the cooler though.

Personally, I see no need to upgrade your rig because it is fine as it is. If you wish to upgrade for gaming purposes eg DX10 then upgrading your graphics card might be a better choice.

Didn't actually look at the spec in the sig, what Lonewolf said is probably a better solution. There isn't going to be any major improvement, going for a DX10 car would be a better thing to do.
