Hi folks , just wondering what people would recommend for a system upgrade, budget about £400 , used for surfing, distributed computing , mainly play RTS / RPG / Footy Manager type games

Got the CPU/Mboard & the 1 GIG memory as a bundle back in Feb 2007 from OCUK

> Mainboard : Gigabyte 965P-DS3

> Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 @ 1866 MHz but o/clocked @ 2310 MHZ

> Physical Memory : 3072 MB

1GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Kit
2GB GeIL PC2-6400C4 Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

> Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT 256 MB

> Operating System : Windows XP Home Edition SP2

> PSU is a Tagan TG530-U22 530W (but nearly 3 yrs old)

Would the following be much improvement?

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 LGA775 'Wolfdale' 3.00GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
(146.86)

Asus P5Q Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£99.86)

HIS ATI Radeon HD 4650 Heatpipe Silent 512MB DDR2 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£64.61)

Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK) (£49.34)

Total price £371.24 inc vat+shipping from OCUK

what type of distributed computing projects do you run?

if f@h, look at nvidia graphics cards, they have a better output, you may also want to look into a quad to improve your output on other projects if they can use the multiple cores.

the 4650 is a huge upgrade to what you currently have

the cpu is again a largish upgrade to what you got, but as stated above, if you want better results in DC projects look at a quad core
