Hello, i'm looking to upgrade my GF card from an 8800 GTX, i dont want to spend much more than £300 if possible and am looking for the most bang for my buck.

System specs.....

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650 (Socket 775) PCI-Express
BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3
3GB GeIL DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz

Mainly used for gaming.

any help/advice much appreciated :)

Before you upgrade overclock that cpu, I would have thought you'd get around 3ghz easily. Might be worth hearing from a fellow user of that particular model before performing an overclock. Cooling and ventilation will also play a part.
Assuming that this isn't sufficient, or you don't wish to overclock, what games do you play and at what resolution? I'd say purchasing, for example, a 4870X2, with your cpu at stock will hold the card back a fair bit. It'll still be a nice upgrade but you won't be gettin your monies worth out of the purchase. I'd say a resolution of 1680x1050 is the very minimum you should consider for a cards like the 4870X2 or the 295gtx. In an ideal world 2560x1600 or whatever the top res is.

I have that exact same cpu and using a Thermalright Ultra-120 have it running at 3.25Ghz.

I'd actually say that previously the 8800GTX could handle most games at a resolution of 1900x1200 with most settings at max, bar of course Crysis.

I've since upgraded to a 30" monitor and coupled this with a 295GTX.

So, resolution is important in your decision as the 8800 is still a great card.
