Hi, its time for an upgrade to my system and need a little advice on what to go for.

Current Specs

q6600 @ 3.2
4gb ddr corsair dominator ram
nvidia 275gtx
ocz sxs 600w power supply

I am keeping the case and hard drives as they are fine, using a benq 24" LED monitor too.

I am decided on an i5, p8p67 and 8gb of ram with the intention of overclocking the i5 on air cooling with a decent cpu cooler.

Graphics card wise i was looking at the 6950 2gb

The main thing that i have questions over is the power supply. Will the one i currently have be fine or should i look for a more powerful one. I don't intend to go crossfire/sli so hope that i can get away with what i have,

Budget is around £650

Thanks

Dean

Both HDs are sata,
main one is 640GB Western Digital WD6402AAEX Caviar Black 3.5" SATA III

storage one is 750gb Seagate Barracuda 7200 st3750528as

I could do with a new optical drive as my current one is IDE, but would just want a DVD writer, not fussed on blu ray.

Thanks

I have a coolermaster elite 430 case and currently have a arctic cooling freezer 7 pro on my q6600 and have a fair bit of room to spare. I also have 4 Akasa viper 120mm fans in there as a push pull system for airflow

Sounds good then:)

The Asrock board above will accept Lga775 heatsinks also, so you dont have to get the Gelid, but the heatsink will be mounted at a slight rotated angle as the holes in the PCB for this are twisted away from the normal 1155 mounting holes.

The 6950 is currently today only £25 off - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-273-SP

Thanks for the help, that 6950 was the one i was looking at.

Is the I5 an easy overclocker?, i was looking that the preoverclocked bundles the ocuk do, are they any good as i was looking at the i5, p8p67 and 8gb of ram for £395 which is OC'ed already to 4.6.

Sorry i am not that up to speed with overclocking lately, i have had the q6600 for over 3 years and never had to do anything to it since the inital overclock.

Does this also mean the power supply would be sufficent?

Thanks

The i5 is very easy to overclock, that Asrock board has the latest Gen3 PCI-E slots for the next generation cards and Ivy Bridge support.

http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=Z68 Extreme4 Gen3

It also has a range of OC speeds in the BIOS to select from, 4ghz - 4.8ghz, so click a speed and its done.

The Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £159.98 is only on preorder atm, and i was looking at picking the parts up sometime this week, maybe tomorrow.

Is the none gen3 version of this board ok as a replacement or is it really worth waiting for the gen 3?
