Hi,

I am new to this forum so here goes!

Which would be the best upgrade for me going from an Asus HD5850 pcs+ graphics card (which is slightly overclocked), I game at 1920 x 1080 on windows 7 professional.

Also would I benefit in changing from a 32bit system to a 64bit, would this help with framerates??

any help would be really appreciated. thanks.

Going 64bit Windows will help wrt drivers, but will make no difference to framerates directly.
As for graphics card upgrade, a few questions:-

1. What is your budget max
2. What PSU/processor/motherboard do you have

I have a budget of approx £300, psu is a corsair TX850M, motherboard is an asus P6X58DE motherboard and an i7 950 processor.

How much RAM do you have, because running 32bit memory will not allow you to use more than 3gb of memory.

If you have 4gb memory or more you need 64bit.

You didn't say what your CPU/motherboard/RAM/PSU were. If you're still running something like C2D or C2Q, I'd recommend a CPU upgrade first, GPU last.

Thanks for all your help, i'm currently running a 32bit windows 7 with 4gig ram. will probably wait for the 7870 then, roughly march time isnt it??

plus, would it pay to upgrade to a 64bit system with say 8 gig ram - for a 7870, or would my current setup get a similar performance??

What is the spec for the rest of your PC? I'm asking this because upgrading graphic card would be pointless if your 5850 is already getting bottlenecked by your existing CPU.

Yes upgrade to 64bit + more ram will benefit you :)

Just bought a 12gig kit of crucial memory (3x4gig) and will upgrade to 64bit windows ready for a new graphics card in a couple of months. thanks for all your help guys!
