Hello

I am looking to upgrade my graphics card and have a budget of up to around £170.

My current PC specs are:

AMD Phenom II 965 @ 4 GHZ
3GB DDR2 800 Ram
Asus M3N/HD-HDMI
Crucial C300 64GB SSD and Maxtor 250GB HDD
LG W2242S 1680x1050 Monitor
Corsair VX550w PSU
Current card: 8800GTS 320MB

I will be looking to play the current games at max or near settings such as Battlefield 3 and others. I am happy to overclock the card to achieve more performance.

Cheers in Advance

Thanks

Thanks for the advice,

looks like i have got a choice between the 7850 and 660,
if i understand right the 660 is a more powerful card at stock (on par with 7870). The 7850 overclocks like mad and can gain performance and be on par with a GTX 580.

Can the GTX 660 not overclock and gain better performance than 7850 overall?

Sorry if its a silly question.

Thanks in advance

The reason why 7850 is such an impressive card is because its stock clock is only 800MHz...so overlocking it to 1200MHz is effectively 50% overclock! However you have to bare in mind that the 7850 is simply a cut-down 7870, so both would roughly hit the same MHz on max overclock, and the 7850 with fewer stream processors would still be slower than the 7870 (as well as overclocked 660).

I think to get 7850 or 7870/GTX660 is down to if you want to spend £150-£160 or £180-£190.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Final question as I am going to buy one of these cards today.

Do you think the performance gap is big enough to justify the higher price of the 7870?

If i was to get a 7870 and overclock it, the performance would surpass that of the GTX 660 because of the limited overclocking due to the power cap.

Would this be worth it?

Thanks in advance guys

100mhz overclock to the core on the 7870 will have it hitting near enough stock 7950 performance.
