Morning,

I am going to upgrade my i7 2700k rig that I have been running since 2010 so have been looking at the overclocked bundles on ocuk, am wanting an i7 8700k, new board and 16gb ram. I was thinking about going with the Gigabyte Z370 bundle here

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/defc...rclocked-4.70ghz-gaming-bundle-bu-0a7-og.html

After reading some reviews on the gigabyte board, Ive decided against it. What would be a good alternative bundle to go with?

Thanks in advance

board is fine for gaming , not for workstation related tasks at 24/7 - ran k3 - same board less RGB as 5.2ghz for a few months and was fine with vrms hitting 70c for gaming

depends on your budget, if your going from 4 core / 4 thread CPU to 6 core/thread or 6/12 personally dont see the point, might as well double it up to 9th gen 8 core, either 9700/9900k but they do come at a VERY high cost .

Ryzen has gained a lot of traction, specially when it costs cheaper, offers 6-8 cores with double the thread count and is roughl 10% slower at 1440p/4k to intel

Thanks, read about very high temps with the auros board which put me off. Would prefer to stick with intel on this upgrade and ideally would like to keep budget around £800, looked at the 9 series but figured the 8700k would be best price v performance compared to 9 series. Runing a 1080 in the build, mainly used for gaming and video, audio production and editing. Is there an overclocked bundle you would recommend around the above budget?

shame, just missed out on their 8086k bundle, was the v,2 version of the board with wifi but had 512gb ssd thrown in etc

depends on your case but

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £809.46 (includes shipping: £10.50)

even if you got 8700k - which is 6 cores 12 theads vs 8/8 (high core always better- slightly) . main difference is they aren't soldered , meaning I wouldn't run that CPU at 5ghz unless its under a 360 AIO personally - gets hot!

and use a z390 board. as an example, that z370 aorus is 4+3 vrm set up, the budget z390 is 12+1 - set to handle over double the amps across the vcore

then there's ryzen 2700x which we all love here as its making INTEL work for a change - whilst still ripping people off haha

no need to OC yourself pretty much

Thanks pal, appreciate that. That 8086k bundle sounded ideal, shame Ive missed it. I am going to stick with intel, better the devil you know etc. The 2nd option looks fairly ideal, I plan to use the h75 cooler i currently have on my 2700k as it keeps things cool @4.8 and would save a few quid. Dont mind oc'ing myself, had just considered an overclocked bundle for convenience.

in that case would get the 9700k ... specially being soldered H75 might be okay . if you have a look at what guys are running de-lid 8th gens on here- they knocked off 10c + easily so shows 9th gen will run cooler from default .

2700k vs 8700k at 4.8ghz will have a big difference in heat - min air we recommend £90 dual towers or 260 aio's , specially at 5ghz which the chips should do

Cheers, appreciate the help. Will think about the 9700k, I see they are still in pre-order, will have to see if i can wait or i might push on with a 8700k and possibly upgrade the cooler. I cant put a 240mm rad in the 600t case i have so cooling is definetly a consideration.

End of the week NDA lifts and it's it's released . If there's stock...
