Current system is

i5 9600k
Radeon RX 6900 XT Extreme Formula 16GB
32GB DDR4

I'm happy with the GPU for now (as it heats the house :D ) but would like a new Mobo, CPU, cooler and ram that compliment each other with a view in due course to upgrading the GPU to a 4080/4090 perhaps next year. I'm in a big old case (looks aren't important )but would like to stay air cooled- currently on a Noctua that does a splendid job

I'm mainly VR, flight sims (hence the 4090 will probably be the end result GPU wise) but would like to make use of my current GPU without going daft on spending in one go.
I'm not adverse to a bit of overclocking on the CPU - it all helps.

Also any SDD recommendations.

No budget really - anything goes but sensible within reason so say a grand max.

cheers

Thanks, will look at the compatibility of the cooler.
This might help:

Just a quick update

I'm having issues I'm afraid. I've upgraded as above (CPU / Mobo / ram / SSD) but keep getting this weird crash. Temps are stable, new drivers installed, new chipset drivers. It's not just happening under load either. I've done the obvious and checked all connectors are secure.

Before I delve deeper just wondering if anyone has seen something similar ? Event viewer says the computer has rebooted from a bugcheck..with a load of code ...that I'm now delving into aargghh..I think I'll start afresh tomorrow

If you're getting BSODs, I'd run memtest first off (and reset the memory to stock, not EXPO, or vice versa).

It could be remnants from the old install that are not compatible with the new hardware.

Thanks. I've just started running memtest86 and have 903 errors in the first 25 minutes. Memory at stock in BIOS.

Is there any point in carrying on or should I just return, obviously they came as a pair so it doesn't matter which stick's playing up.

There's a few things you could try before you RMA:
- Turn on XMP/EXPO, just in case it fixes the issue (it has happened with DDR5 systems, but never seen it with DDR4).
- Make sure they're in the right slots (according to the manual).
- If you have a cooler that has the possibility of an uneven mount, you could try adjusting it.

I'd take a screenshot/mobile snap of the memtest screen too, as you may find it helpful for the RMA process.

If you have the option of a refund / swapping for different sticks, then I'd do that too, just to rule out a bad batch or compatibility issue.

Before I go any further I've noticed on the Mobo power supply there's an 8 plus 4 pin connector . I only had an 8 plugged in as per previous motherboard so have connected that up.

If no joy will turn on EXPO as suggested, confirm both sticks in the correct slots.

The cooler was my previous Noctua, it was compatible but required a new mounting kit - will investigate if no joy above !

Thanks for your help !
