Processor AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
Installed RAM 32.0 GB
With a Nvidia 4070

I am looking to upgrade the mainboard/CPU and memory.

It doesnt have to cutting edge looking to spend aroun £500, £400 would be better!
I do game but just looking for acceptable 1920*1080 performance for games like BF6, other than that just general PC usage

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

OK - say I went with 9800X3D - what would reccomend for a mainboard and memory?

Don't know if this is recommended, but should work together.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £647.92 (includes delivery: £7.99)

You are going way over your budget though and while it should be better than what you have now, i do not think it is worth it.

If you are going to go over budget, think a RX 9070XT or RTX 5070ti would be best. (my opinion)

Part of the reason for this is I need wifi on my mainboard (yes I could get a usb dongle) but I am also having issues updating windows to the latest pack. This is due to some mainboard issue I beleive, I have tried everything and Im at my wits end. That is having a knock on effect with using VPN software and other things I need to be able to do day to day.

We're not saying you can't do it, it is just that the entry level AM5 CPUs are no faster (in some cases, slower) than what you have. £500 for equivalent performance is a bit poop. It is true that you could upgrade the CPU later.

I'd lean toward a GPU upgrade in your situation under normal circumstances, but there's nothing particularly great for £400-500 coming from a 4070 either.

As for your motherboard, make sure you're running the latest bios and if that helps buy a dongle for wi-fi or a mains adapter with a RJ45 plug socket you can run to the PC from a nearby outlet.
