Hi,

I am a bit of a noob when it comes to PC hardware, I have a Gigabyte
GA H55M-UD2H motherboard with an Intel core i3 530 processor and gtx 470 GPU.

I am looking to upgrade my processor to an i7 3770k and upgrade the GPU to the 600 range.

can anyone please tell me if these will work with this motherboard?

my specs are:

Gigabyte GA H55M-UD2H
i3 530 @2.9ghz over-clocked to 3.6ghz
12gb ram
gtx 470 600mhz stock speed over-clocked to 800mhz
600 watt power supply

thanks

if I am not mistaken is that not a socket 1156 board

the 3770 is a 1155 socket cpu
if I can remember the sockets on the motherboard don't quite match the notches on the cpu

and there is also a pin less on the 1155 cpus

so if I am right unless you have a board that takes both you are realy looking at a new m/board .

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

No, the cpu change will not work. You are on socket 1156 and Ivybridge is socket 1155. They are not interchangeable. That means a new mobo as well. As Haswell and it's new socket is out in a couple of months i would hang on for that. I don't see any point in going from one dead socket to another for the sake of a couple of months wait.

The graphics card change will be fine though.

What make and model is that 600w psu?

God, it’s really confusing! it's like building a car trying to find which parts are compatible with your engine. How do you guys know this stuff? When i look at the specs on the Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz it doesn’t state which motherboards are compatible. Sorry for being such a noob I am just learning!

I have just looked at the support list on the gigabyte website to see which processors will run on my motherboard. I have a core i3-530 @2.39ghz. the highest CPU it supports is an core i7-880 @ 3.06ghz. would it make much of a difference if i installed the i7?

What I really want to do is replace the components without having to change the case, motherboard so I can reach the full potiential of what I already have. pastymuncher, i cant remember from the top of my head the make of the power supply, i will tell you later when i get home.

they are different sockets, your 530 is 1156,the newer 3770k is 1155 so its smaller size and wont fit (blame intel)

yes you would see an increase if you plopped in an i7 880 or an i5 760 for that matter

you'd also gain if you bought a good cooler and overclocked the 530,those chips hit 4.4-4.5ghz if overclocked well

i don't want to over clock the cpu too much because i have a mini case for my PC. So i am a bit worried about the heat. i have already over clocked the PC to 3.6GHz and it runs between 50-60c on idle.

thanks

...But the i5 760 has a lower stock speed @ 2.80GHz where as my i3 is 2.9GHz wouldnt that be lowering the performance?

well its 4 proper cores on the 760 vs two plus two virtual cores on the 530

plus you can raise the bclk to give you 100mhz=2.9ghz surely?

you would lose the igpu with the 760 chip also,so no onboard graphics

only other way is to upgrade the whole board/cpu/memory
