In the next week or two I shall be looking to upgrade my machine.
I am a little out of touch with the latest offerings :D

Mobo, CPU, RAM and Graphics Card.

I think I shall go for the 8800GTX. Am I right in thinking there are some new cheaper cards which do almost the same job for much less? GTS?

As for the other items; well I am a fan of ASUS so I am happy to go with an ASUS Motherboard. I am currently running 2 x 10000 RPM Raptors in a RAID1 array and 2 other non-raided SATA drives. I'd like the new board to be able to offer the same configuration.

I would like at least 2Gb RAM and have always preferred decent Corsair TwinX to enable Dual Channel operation.

As for the CPU; well I'd like to avoid the very latest processor(s) as they're immensely expensive. Something just below that spec would be ideal.
In the past I have tended towards AMD as they've always been slightly cheaper than Intel but is it time for a change?

I don't really have a budget but don't want to go silly.
£350 - £450 excluding the graphics card? Something like that I guess.

Anyway please may I ask for help and advice on which items would give me the best performance?

What would be your recommendations?

Many thanks for any guidance :)

I second this one as my current machine is on its last legs and really suffering now that I'm trying to process much larger digital images since I bought a digital SLR camera.
