Hi

Was thinking about upgrading as an early Christmas present however is it worth me upgrading? I was also thinking about watercooling my gpu as it gets very hot (90*c and higher) in games. However I really don't see the point when it's only worth £50.

Intel i5 750 @ 3.4GHz Cooled by 120Rad / EK Waterblock
MSI P55-GD55
His Icooler ATI Radeon HD5850
8GB Corsair Vengeance Memory - 1600MHz
Asus Xonar Essence STX Sound Card
Samsung 830 256GB
CoolerMaster HAF X
Corsair AX850 Modular PSU ( yes I know it's overkill but it's future proof)
Samsung Syncmaster P2450H 1920 x 1080
Running Windows 7 Home premium 64-bit

May I ask for your advice whether there is anything worth upgrading in my system? I would like Sata 3 to use my SSD to the potential however I don't see the point in getting a new motherboard for this either.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Remote zero

Thanks for your response. As long as it is a worthy upgrade, within reason, i can stretch £500, but since I spent a lot on pc when i purchased it, I don't want to go too extreme lol.

Nice new graphics card, 7950 or 670 and wait for Haswell with it's new socket next year. Pointless going from one dead socket to another and the performance gains is'nt worth the price paid. You are unlikley to notice the difference between sata 2 and sata 3 in day to day tasks either. Have you tried overclocking that 750 more? It should manage 3.8Ghz easily enough.

I'll try and push my i5 a little further tonight. Was never too bothered about upgrading the processor... it seems to be good enough, well it was back when I bought it :D ... Is the performance gain of a 7970 not worth the extra £60 - £80?

Thanks for your responses.

7950 can be clocked to 7970 levels easily enough. Cheapest 7950 with custom cooler is £240 while the cheapest 7970, albeit with a stock cooler is £299. People have gotten good results with their 7950's on here and it's more than enough for your screen res.

yeah your GPU is aging a bit, newer ones are more efficient and hence will run cooler. Probably wont even need extra cooling and you'll get more performance out of it too.

my cpu never goes higher than 45c at its clocks but the gpu is just ridiculous.

Sorry I was just trying to make a joke cos of the GPU I have and the fact it is notoriously hot running and overclocked as well. :p

Have you re-seated the heat sink/fan assembly..? Cleaned out dust and applied new TIM?
