Is this worth the upgrade to Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590 SLi (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-142-AS), AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-165-AM), G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS).

Is this a good stable and compatible configuration or a bad move?

It would be better if you told us what your upgrading from??

That spec will all work fine and would be a good fast system, have you considered conroe??

Hello. Im upgrading from a ABIT AW8-MAX 955X, INTEL D 920, 2x512MB CORSAIR XMS2 DDR2 675MHz MEMORY.

Im experiencing some serious issues with my setup since i upgraded from a previous AMD Setup and thats why i've chosen to go back to AMD.

What serious issues (?) as that should be a good, stable setup, although the 820's and 920's seem to be problematic due to the 14x multiplier for some reason.

Is it overheating at all? Have you checked the RAM is seated correctly?, is the system overclocked at all?

And I take it the BIOS is up to date?

No its not overheating max temp so far is 33, no its not overclocked, every thing is seated in correctly and securely, i've formated to see if it solves the problem no it hasn't.

The ABIT BIOS is currently up to date with whats on offer from abit so far. which is not a great deal of support.

Very true. I would be tempted to change the motherboard for a Conroe compatible one, buy the RAM you originally intended to buy and keep the processor for the moment. Then, when Conroe prices settle down, get an E6600 or E6700.

Is there any reason why i should not upgrade to the following:
Asus M2N32-SLi-DLX nForce 590 SLi (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-142-AS).
AMD Athlon 64 3800+ 2.4GHz (Socket AM2) - Retail (CP-165-AM).
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS).

Conroe offers better performance than AM2, may as well get a conroe compatible board and the new memory, If this sorts your problems out then all is good. If it doesnt then you can buy a conroe chip at a later date which will outperform the am2 3800

The system you are suggesting is a step backwards in my opinion. But it's a pretty good system and I have no doubt it will serve you well.

Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Conroe" 1.86GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-126-IN).
Asus P5W DH Deluxe WiFi (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-152-AS).
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 LA PC2-5300 (2x1GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-5400PHU2-2GBLA) (MY-012-GS).

What about this configuration compared to the AMD configuration i chosen earlier?

The NVidia boards shoul dbe along shortly once NVidia sort out a few issues with their new chipsets.

It is possible to run SLi on a Crossfire board with hacked drivers, but I'm not sure it's sensible, actually

LOL! when are the conroe processor due to be released. At the moment my wallet is getting ready to open on that AMD setup i mentioned.

I do have a question about that RAM. ASUS say that Corsair modules are recommended, but the G.Skill looks so tempting to buy now and im abit worried about purchasing them and finding either they don't work on that motherboard or they do but later cause instablility and issues.

I can't help with RAM, I'm afraid - I don't have anything AMD! I do know that I have had various issues with DDR2 Generic RAM in ASUS motherboards that has worked fine in Abit and MSI boards, so maybe ASUS is a bit pickier.

Corsair has never given me any problems at all, in any boards.

I have never used G.Skill.

I wouldn't pay any attention to recommeded RAM by motherboard makers. Chances are they get huge back handers from Corsair to say that. Stick with the G-Skill its well known and should work fine with that spec.
