HIya all

My current 6800gt has been confirmed dead so its a good time to do a semi upgrade on a few components. My current rig is :

Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM SATA 8MB Cache
Crucial 2x1GB DDR PC3200
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester 90nm (Socket 939)
Tagan TG480-U01 480W Silent PSU
XFX GeForce 6800 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Viewsonic VA2012W-2 20" Widescreen LCD (1680x1050)

Basically im keeping the HD , RAM , MB and thinking of upgrading the CPU , PSU and GC. Obviously the GC is a needed but im doing the PSU as well because im not sure wether the 12v supply to the 6800gt failed or the GC itself failed. I dont wont to buy a new GC and fry it cause ive got a dicky PSU (Plus i want to make sure ive got a good enough PSU for the new parts).

So the question is what to get.

Currently looking at getting.

Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail - £152.74 inc VAT
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ (Socket 939) - OEM - £105.74 inc VAT
FSP Sparkle FX600-GLN Epsilon 600W ATX2.0 PSU - £88.11 inc VAT

Total price of £357.11 (was aiming for £300 but can push to the 350 if worth it)

A few questions im not sure about.
1. Is it worth upgrading the CPU at all ? Im thinking my current CPU will be a bottle neck and the new one will be a significant upgrade to make it worth the money.
2. Is the PSU upto the job? or is there better that could be had for the money? Ive been recommened to try a FSP by a friend but dont know much about them.
3. Can anyone recommend a good (but not to expensive) CPU fan/heatsink?
4. Will all the new components work with my current setup? Ive had a good search through the forums and cant see any reason why there should be a problem.

I realise there are new dx10 GC due soon (cheaper than a 8800) but ill be doing a full PC Build in about a years time so just after a few things that can help give a reasonable increase.

Any help appreciated

If i were you, I would stick with your current psu, get one of the x2's that ocuk has got at the minute and upgrade your gfx card to the x1950 pro like you say.

Im just a little worried the PSU might be fubar and dont wont to risk killing a new GC. Will my tagan but up for the job anyway?

Also how does this card compare with the 1950pro?

BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £176.24

Ive always been a nvidia man so not sure wether to go ATI but have heard so many good things about the 1950pros.

is there anyway of testing the PSU? Or do you reacon i should just keep using it and keep an eye on it ?

If i dont get the PSU i can upgrade the CPU to a 4600+ :)
