Lo all basically im notching up my pc myself a bit, gonna do a new build and all that and hopefully not break the dam thing. However im having a bit of trouble with parts.

When it comes to my gfx card im not sure what to do, i currently run an XFX6800GT from a bit over a year ago i think and the original plan was to get another one and SLI them but unfortunately i cant find these cards anywhere. But at the end of the day am i best jumping to the new end of the nvidia cards instead of this solution....if i ever do find another card. Im having exactly the same problem with my ram. My mobo is an ASUS a8n socket 939, if that will have any implications.

So basically am i best just starting from scratch or adding to what i have? And if its adding to what i had, anyone know some decent shops with older equipment?

Cheers for your help

Depending on (a) budget and (b) what you're going to use it for, you could either 'stick' or 'twist' with your new build.

As a general point, its worth getting a new card rather than SLi your older one. For PCI-E, these are the class leaders:-

7600 GS (£69) , 7600 GT (£88) , 7900 GS (£108) , x1950 Pro (£125) , x1950 XT (£165) , 8800 GTS (£287) , 8800 GTX (£375) .

You'll notice a decent boost from 7900GS onwards. A x1950 Pro should probably be the one to go for, but that is without knowing your budget etc...

Managed to find both products i was looking for:

Ram - Corsair 1GB (2X512MB) TwinX Pro LED, DDR PC3200 (400), 184 Pin Memory

Gfx - 256Mb XFX PCI-E GF6800GT DDR3 TvOut/Dual DVI * Retail

On your advice i dont think i'll go SLI, maybe even wait for a while on both, i thought this mobo *** last a bit :( . Probably wait a while and go 8800GS. The RAM im stuck on, was thinking of getting it then i'd have 2gigs. But maybe im best going for a new mobo then sort these out. And sorry yes to answer your question it isnt DDR2 capable, thats why im considering the new mobo, highest it can go is PC3200 i think.

Cheers for your help

(Sorry about the links, forgot)

so any ideas on the best course of action?

My cpu is AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3500+

Socket 939 i think i said before and the rest i mentioned before as well i think.

Thanks again

You could sell up - socket 939 stuff is going for a premium because they're not making it any more, but lots of people are still on it. Move to a C2D platform.

think i may just go for the ram for now then save the major change for when i can afford top end gear. Thanks very much for the help though mate, much appreciated, u've saved me a couple hundred at least.
