hi all
looking ffor some advice from you experts as im out of touch at the mo but wnat to boost my pc a bit if its worth doing for a small outlay.
i built this system about 2 years ago (i think, maybe less?)

dfi lanparty ut nf4 ultra D skt 939
athlon 64 3200
1GB ddr PC3200 kingmax ram (2 x 512 dual channel)
saphire radeon x800 xl 256MB pci express
maxtor diamondmax 10 200GB 8MB cache

ive just seen this on the front page
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM £35.25 inc vat

would i notice much improvement with that and would i need a new cooler? (not sure what the one i have now is)

also what about adding ram to make it 2mb. its the dual channel stuff so does that complicate things when adding? or best to just start again with 2x1G?.

maybe a new vid card as i use it mainly for games.

any advice welcome and much appreciated.
thanks
ashley

How much do you want to spend??

I had a similar spec to you but Athlon 64 3200, but i took the plunge and bought

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-6400 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 NCQ 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Intel Core 2 DUO E6300 "LGA775 Allendale"

Can't beleave the differance, dosen't half fly now STALKER plays 1000 times better, RO rocks at max. Glad i did worth it.

Justr need a decent cooler now. Any one suggest a decent cooler that uses the standard mounts.

massive upgrade for you there. if you can afford it get the 2gb kit

great recommendation paul...

my only worry would be the mobo in case "flash" wants to overclock he may encounter a few difficulties...

having said that tho, if "flash" will not be overclocking then it those components will work a treat, a great upgrade at a very affordable price...

True I agree, but I'm sure you could do a 'mild overclock' with that motherboard, I know some people have and that memory isn't too bad either, I'm using the value memory as well (albeit 2Gb) :)

true for a mild overclock....

but once I've personally put in the time and effort on a mild overclock knowing I could have spent £25 - £30 to overclock the cpu to its potential somewhat depresses me....

having said that , it all depends on everyone's requirements...

ultimately the asrock is not bad but for a few extra quid you could get a proven overclocking board...

good luck

thx for the suggestions.
i take it just upgrading the cpu would not give much improvement?

not worried about overclocking, had a go once but dont really have time to get into it properly.

with the new mobo ect would my vid card not hold it all back?

if i do upgrade maybe i should think about making sure it can run all the new and coming games, would these parts do that with a new vid card?

thanks again
ashley

the people who was saying about the mobo not being an overclocker... the idea is he doesnt need to buy other things as this is an upgrade in time board... its the single cheapest way to go c2d
