Upgrade advice

Hi, i'm thinking about upgrading my pc as it's quite old but can't afford to spend more than about £300 because i need to save money for our holiday

current spec is :-

Athlon 2800xp
1gb ddr 3200
Asus X800XT
2 x Raptor in raid

What im wondering is, will the core 2 duo 4300/6300 offer any improvement in single core apps/games?.

i was thinking about upgrading to this

C2D 4300/6300
ASROCK 4Core Dual VSTA
G.Skill 2GB DDR2 NR PC2-6400

and then sometime after summer upgrade the motherboard and graphics card, is it worthwhile or would i be better off doing something else? thanks

With that sort of spec I'd reckon you have an AGP graphics card. Most C2D boards only offer PCI-e. That mobo offers both but it is not nearly as good as more mainstream PCI-e only boards like the DS3 or the P5N.

That said, the CPU upgrade would be a massive improvement.
