I am thinking of upgrading some core components in my rig which is listed in my sig.
I am thinking of a E6550, Gigabyte P35 DS3L mobo and some faster ram not really sure what though.
I would appreciate some input regarding these components as I do intend to overclock the system. I do not require SLi. My PSU is a 520W Seasonic. I could really do with some advice on RAM as I am unsure as to what speed to buy and what is good for overclocking.

your budget?

if ocing

MB = abit IP35/IP35 pro
cpu = q6600/e2180 both will oc to 3GHz or more with the MB above, 2 or 4 cores is the main difference

RAM = pc2 6400 stuff, ram at this speed is enough to take a q6600 over 3ghz, it will support a fsb of about 400 without OCing. pc2 8500 is only important when tight timings are wanted.

as above A 2180, forget q6600 pointless really at mo just for bragging rights unless you video edit or photoshop.memory lots of decent stuff about i would steer clear of the giel though lots have had probs with it .

Budget is around $500 CDN.
I will be selling my old parts to help me out.
Thanks for the advice on the memory, it always confuses me when it comes to buying ram.

That is an excellent selection of components.

I am awaiting the Boxing Day sale prices here in Vancouver as it seems that some places do some absolutely mad deals. I think that the Q6600 is going to be on sale so that will be worth getting if it is. I will update you guys again if my list changes.
Does anybody think that Phenom is worth getting?

Its ok the deals are not that great so I will definately be getting the E2180 unless the new AMD X2 5000 Black edition is worth getting as its not much more than the E2180, not sure which mobo would be good for it though?

I did go out and buy the items I had selected in a few posts up E2180 etc, currently sitting a 3Ghz and 30c, very chuffed. My 3dmark increased by over 3000 points too.

Load is around 45c.
My current 3dmark06 score is 10697 with the rig in my sig, is that a reasonable score?
