Hey people, i've been a bit out of it for a while now with PC gaming, but a couple of months ago I built myself a media PC with a crappy HD2400, after I realised I really love PC gaming again I upgraded to a HD 3850 and have had loads of fun with it, now I want to upgrade again, but after the 3850 the price/performance ratio is starting to get into diminishing returns... Anyone reccomend a good upgrade (wanting to build a whole new pc) from my current system;
Athlon X2 4000+
2GB PC 6400 Geil
Radeon HD 3850 (512MB)
Asus M2N mobo (eek hence the full upgrade)
Kinda wanting to spend around £700 on the new system, dont need monitors mice or kb, got all that covered... Would I be best going for xfire/sli? Wanting to be able to get very noticable increase in FPS etc...
Was thinking of getting a C2Q, 4GB ram, need some advice on the mobo and gfx
thanks in advance. Also wanting to know what soundcard people reccomend and/or if those physx cards are worth it.

gfx card wise, if you can probably worth waiting for the nvidia 9 series cards to come out, if not i'd go 8800GT/GTS.

Are you planning on overclocking?

8800 GT, or a GTS/GTX depending on res.

1280x1024 -> GT
1680x1050 -> GTS
More? ->GTX

I fear everything else would be diminishing returns. Perhaps a nice new fast HD as well.

Guess I will be overclocking, even if only a bit. GTX sounds good and within price range, just doesnt seem to be THAT much of an increase from the 3850, anyone got any info or links to benchmarks of UT3/crysis and other newer games...

Also how much performance increase do you think I would gain from upgrading from the X2 4000+ to A C2Q, or would I be better going with a higher clocked C2D? I'm thinking the C2Q would gmake the system last longer performance wise and i can always SLI GTXs when they become cheaper...
