I'm looking for an upgrade from my current 7900GT which won't require me also getting a new PSU (Tagan 480w). Current build in sig. Any suggestions? Want it to be a worthwhile upgrade...i'm not interested in gaining an extra 2-3fps....

Running a 1920x1200 screen res (although I don't mind not utilising the WHOLE of that for more intense games- dont mind lower res and then stretching) and if I can get away with spending no more than £120 that'd be awesome. Will a 480w really run an 8800GT ok?

8800GTS would be best, but since you're willing to drop the res, it's perhaps ok to stick with the 8800GT. this OC model is probably the one i'd go for

as for the PSU... the amount of amps on the +12V rail is more important than the total amount of watts delivered... on the box of my evga 8800GT, it recommends "400 watt power supply with a minimum of 26 amps on the +12 volt rail." in a single card config...

Use this power supply calculator as a rough estimate

ive got a 8800GT running on 500w so not too much difference there, but the 8800GT will be youre best bet at under 120. Might start to stuggle at 1920x1200 but as you said you dont mind dropping the res
