Alright,

Merry Crimbo and all that.

I have got approx £1000 to upgrade my rig but I am not 100% sure what I want to upgrade.

I'll give you the full list of upgrades that I would want if I had more money and then 3 options that I have come up with so far (feel free to chop and change, or add to what I have got)

FULL LIST:
4870X2 (probably would demand an upgrade to 1000W PSU)
6GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM
Watercooling setup
WD Raptor 300GB
Thermaltake Xpressar (refrigeration case - would also need 1000W PSU and obviously no watercooling)
1GB Storage HDD

Option 1:
Thermaltake Xpressar
1000W PSU
WD Raptor 300GB
1GB Storage HDD

Option 2:
6GB DDR3 1600mhz RAM
Watercooling setup
WD Raptor 300GB
1GB Storage HDD

Option 3:
4870X2
1000W PSU
WD Raptor 300GB
1GB Storage HDD

So, what would you do and why?

p.s. If your answer is; "save the money", "don't upgrade", or something else along those lines then please don't bother posting it.

I had a look at that Xpressar Case, and it appears you don't need a watercooling setup with that. Just something to look into/bear in mind.

Also, what parts are you going to be carrying over?

option 5:

New Case
Watercooling setup
WD Raptor 300GB
1GB Storage HDD

Reasoning:

Thermaltake cases are ****

not much benfit in quadfire so 4870X2 is out

& same with extra ram no real advantage to it.

Get something like that for now then upgrade gfxs when the refreshs come out.

I was aware of that (hence the brackets after Xpressar description), but thanks anyway.

I will be carrying over everything in my sig (RAM, GPU, CPU, Mobo, HDD) but just adding more stuff and selling what I then do not need e.g. If I buy a watercooling set-up I will not need to carry over my CPU cooler, but if I buy another 4870X2 I will need to replace my PSU etc etc

get an SSD or 2 (in raid 0) for the OS.

your PSU should be able to support 2 4870X2 btu jsut to be safe, the 1000w Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro will be very nice :)

oh and the storage space aswell :)

Ok I think I'll go for the following:

WD Raptor 300GB (to have in RAID0)
120GB SSD (for Vista)
and the following watercooling...

What do you think?

if i were you id get the swiftech GTZ with the I7 retention plate.

2L of fluid aswell just in case :)

and a 360 would be better, the antec 1200 wont fit the 480 at all hehe.

a TJ-07 will fit a 480IICR

Well that's blown my plans out of the window!!

Could you do a screen shot of the water cooling components you would buy? I only want to cool the CPU, not GPU.
