Hi currently upgrading my system all ready sorted cpu, board and ram was going to keep my 8800gtx but it;s decided it's had enough and kicked the bucket.

So question I need help with is hd5850 and a SSD or keep my harddrive and get a Hd5870 mostly play games and web browse some dvd encoding etc any advice appreciated.

What's the rest of the spec? What resolution are you gaming at?

As a general rule I'd say for gaming graphics comes waay before hard drive. Best to worry about the actual processing before loading speeds :)

Yeah knew I had forgot something use a 24" dell 1920x1200 native res
I7 920 CPU
Gigabyte UD5 Motherboard
6Gb corsair ram
and a shiney new atsc 840 to put it all in

5870 then. If you still want it, then you can buy an SSD later :). You'll see better gains from the gfx upgrade however.
