guys, i need some upgrade advice, i may have around £100 to upgrade, next week

A. a better monitor eg. full hd 22" but the only games i play are civ v, fm2011, and some of the total war games, so not too pushed about upgrading this

B. a cheap custom watercooled cpu loop, probably buy some used parts off here or other forums.

imo no point going for a better gpu eg. hd5850 as my existing monitor will not do it justice

or what would you do?

HD3870 vs HD5850. (Yes it's only a single HD3870, but the X2 only adds about 30% to those fps' :p)

I had a HD3850 and upgraded to a HD6870 (have a 1440x900 monitor) and the difference in frame rates is phenomenal - even at much great details.

If you were to upgrade your monitor you would have to upgrade your gfx card aswell - which is out of your budget, as you'll have to drop your settings down to run at 1080p :p

For that reason I would upgrade your graphics card - even something like a HD5770 will give you a good boost in fps.
