Hi Guys
I currently run an E6600 with 4gb DDR2 667 Ram.
GPU is an ATI HD 5700.
Windows 7 64bit

I am currently looking to upgrade to the following
Intel i7 950
6gb DDR3 1333mhz
Mobo intel x58 based
All this including a power supply and case would set me back approx £450.

I guess the all important question is, is it worth it? Or are there any other suggestions for me.
I do the usual on my PC gaming, video encoding etc.

Would i see a big difference between what i have now and the I7 rig:confused:

Buy a newer/faster Intel® Sandybridge setup instead.

The above motherboard in that spec others a multi GPU option (SLI/Crossfire) if thats not something you want? then you can get one of these motherboards instead,

Stulid you got all this stuff book marked and loads of different rig configurations save in individual files according to price ranges or something?

y'have to wonder...

BTW, are you subscribed to this sub-section or something Stulid?

Back on topic though, I pretty much agree with Stulid and I would go for one of the mobos which has xfire and SLI to give you upgrade options later

Just been doing this for too long so kind of got it nailed.

then there was the Big.Wayne days:D

Thanks for your suggestions Stulid, i will probably go for this. Can you also recommend a case and cooling fan and PSU. Sorry to be a pain but you appear to be the font of all knowledge

Well, use the above spec with the brand new Z68 chipset, and just use the Intel heatsink supplied with the CPU.

Add a big aftermarket heatsink later on.

Thanks for your help with this. Is it worth the extra £20 to get 2 x 4gb Corsair XMS3 memory. Unfortunately the PSU is out of stock would the case with the elite 500w suffice?

Any idea why the mobo has gone up by £30 overnight?

Special offers have changed, demand has forced prices up etc.

Heres the latest basket.

To get bang on your budget of £450, heres a better PSU with more PCI-E connectors for multi graphic cards.
