Hey guys,

Can anyone tell me if these would be a worthwhile upgrade from my current rig ? Im hoping to bring my 460 to life with more power, so used for gaming and video coverting etc..

If not then suggestions please :)

These are what i had in mind
AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition - £97.99
Asus M5A88-V EVO - £91.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB - £26.99

Thanks

Hello,

I presume your looking on upgrading to give a boost now but allow for a bulldozer upgrade later down the line?

I think if this is the case you would be better off going with the Phenom II X4 955:

Although the motherboard you've selected supports the bulldozer CPUs it uses the old 800 series chipset, it also has onboard graphics which I cant see you need..

How about this:

Memory seems ok although you will need 1866MHz memory to get the most out of bulldozer, this of course could be upgraded to an 8GB 1866MHz kit later down the line... and memory is crazy cheap at the moment...

exactly right mate !

At the moment games are lagging a bit and i guess its due to the old hypertransport speeds etc im running bottlenecking my 460.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions, ive been away from the scene a while and trying to get up to speed.

Do you think going to the AM3 etc will show a nice improvement?

I dont really have a budget as such, just wanting something that will give me a nice boost without going over board, especially cos my card is only mid range.

you will need to be looking at am3+ boards as am3 will not be compatible with the bulldozer chip plus 900 series chipset so that you got abit better future proof.
