Currently got an old pre-built overclocks rig (with a couple of modifications) from many years ago which is in desperate need of an upgrade. Current specs are:

CPU: Q6600
Mobo: Abit IP35 pro
GFX: 260 GTX
RAM: 6gb of various ddr2
PSU: 1000W
HD: 500gb 7200rpm

I can spend about £1000 in total. Would be mainly used for gaming and possibly a little rendering on the side. Any suggestions would be much appriciated!

Thanks for the suggestion. The psu is the OCZ 1010GXSSLI-UK. Also if relevant the case is an antec 900 (so may not need to change that).

I also have a similar old pre-built rig to that of aresien with some mods and looking for an upgrade. The system will be my main home/office as I run a business from home.

CPU: Q6600
Mobo: Abit IP35 pro
GFX: GeForce 8800 GTS
RAM: 8gb of various ddr2
PSU: 1000W
HD: 2 x 1TB 7200rpm
Case: Antec 1200

I'm looking to upgrade to something like a current workstation bundle as shown below:

Workstation PRO Z68 Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.50GHz Overclocked Bundle - 16GB at £549.98 (inclusive of VAT)

My current system is running Win 7 Ultimate and also a VM system from Oracle (VBOX) which is also win 7 Ultimate.

Question is:

1. Is this possible just to replace the old components (Motherboard, CPU, RAM, cooler) with new components from the above bundle?

2. Will the system boot up normally as before

Point is I don't want to reinstall all the software and looking for a short cut.

Help much appreciated.

Thanks

When changing major pieces of hardware its always best to re-install all software as it can cause issues.

Especially if your changing mobo.
