Hi guys,

I am hoping to get some upgrade advice, I am a bit out of touch on the latest hardware.

I current rig is:
Asus P6X58D-E with a i7-960 running at 4ghz
Corsair XMS3 6 gig
680 GTX
M4 SSD

While I can build my own, I don't have allot of free time to tweak and stress test over the coming months, so was considering one of the pre-over clocked Bundles from ocuk, they do this day in and day out - far better than I can aswell!

Intel Core i7 3820 3.60GHz @ 4.40GHz CPU
Asus X79 Sabertooth Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance Gold 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel

or the

- CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K 3.50GHz @ 4.50GHz Ivybridge CPU
- Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
- RAM: Corsair Dominator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Dual Channel

Both look fairly solid, while I am not considering an SLI setup at the moment, it may be something I consider a year or so down the line. I mainly use this for games and basic working, nothing too demanding

I guess the first question, is it worth spending £600/700 on any of the current gear, is it going to be a significant improvement on what I have? Or am I being stupid and should just wait? (haswell it still some time away)

If you own any of the above/simular - how have you found it - worthwhile/any issues..etc?

Thank you in advance for any guidance or suggestions.

cheers,

Personally I see no reason why you should upgrade, your current system is pretty decent.

Save your money :)

One day I think that, the following I get the upgrade itch!

I am thinking I could ebay my current gear, and take some of the hit on the new items... just find it difficult to decide.

Thanks for the feedback though, any is appreciated

If you are gaming then you will see little performance increase from upgrading. If you must spend some money then maybe something like a water cooling loop? But, personally if it were me I would save my money.

Wait for haswell mate :D That rhymes

That was my first instinct, however it's not due untill March, most likely June-ish - and that's if they keep to their roadmap release dates

Firefly, thanks for that, If I won't see a decent upgrade, then there really is no point what so ever.
