Xenon AMD Bulldozer FX-6 6300 3.50GHz DDR3 Bundle - Six Core [BU-189-OK]

Would anyone know if this would be a decent upgrade from my current Core Duo 8500 3.18?

With the extra cores, would it run GT!4 smoothly?

Many thanks for any advice offered.

Well, it really depends on what GPU you have? Those 'extra cores' won't help anywhere near as much as a good GPU will..

The i3 3220 is a much better CPU than the 6300..

Seems someone's not done their homework :D

Overall in gaming the FX-6300 is better and certainly when it comes to multi-threaded apps..

Depends which games we are talking.

a lot of games are still only threaded for 1 - 2 core CPU's. Modern games that have come out within the last 6 monthsish have started using more than 4 cores.

Thanks for the replies - I dont think I worded my question properly....

My Core Duo 3.16 can run most of my games fine, but struggles with BF3 and GTA4. I understand that these game run better on a quad/six type CPU. My question should've been - if I buy the above bundle, will it run my old games as well as my core duo does - I'm not sure if the six core CPU will be as fast as the core duo when playing games that are programmed to use a single core, or two cores?

I hope I've explained this a bit more clearly this time. :-)

Hi there,

You will definitely see an increase in performance as newer games tend to be mutli threaded and more cores will certainly help.

Especially when going from just 2 cores to either 4 or 6 core.

I would expect to see no drop in performance in older games either as they will just simply utilise the amount of cores they need,
