Hi all, I'm a bit out of the loop with hardware as I didn't plan to upgrade this year, but the mobo in my gaming comp is dying, a couple of the USB's have gone, along with the onboard sound on Friday and I have been getting the odd BSOD, so guess it is time for a upgrade, I would normally do lots of research started a few weeks before I planned to upgrade but this has caught me off guard and I want to order ASAP.

The spec of my current system is:
[email protected].
Asus P8P67 Pro.
Noctua NH-D14,
2x7950 in crossfire.
8Gig Kingston HyperX (1600mhz).
850watt Corsair PSU.

I play a lot of MMO's and picked up a Dell 27" earlier this year and tbh the above did struggle in MMO's in busy areas and on raids with the graphics turned up at the higher resolution, so would like a bit more CPU grunt.

I have been eyeing up a 4670k, but a bit lost on what mobo to go for my gaming comp is just used for gaming, so I don't need all the bells and whistles, just good OC options and crossfire support. Currently looking at Asus Z87-PLUS any other recommendations? have had Asus in my gaming comp for the last 5+ years but would consider others.

Also would I be as well getting new Ram and will my Noctua NH-D14 fit on a 1150 with the standard 1155 fitting kit?

Cheers:)

I wouldn't change your CPU yet as there is plenty of life in it. As pointed out in previous threads, it was the last great overclocker.

I would recommend something like this to keep you going and yes, the D14 will fit 1150 boards.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £136.99
Total : £136.99 (includes shipping : FREE).

This will support your CPU on the basis it has BIOS Version 7 or higher.

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 (MB-380-GI) £52.00
Total : £61.90 (includes shipping : £8.25).

Or there is that and let's be honest it's a bargain to get you up and going again :) It's BIOS can be updated to UEFI to modernise it and it offers Xfire/SLi. An SSD would be a great upgrade if you don't have one....

YOUR BASKET
1 x Toshiba SSD HG5D Series THNSNH 7mm 128GB Solid State Hard Drive - (THNSNH128GCST) £91.99
1 x **B Grade** Gigabyte Z68A-D3H-GEN3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 (MB-380-GI) £52.00
Total : £155.39 (includes shipping : £9.50).

As you can see it's not far off the price what the others guys were suggesting just for a mobo ;)
