Hello Ladies/Gents,

Following the release and subsequent stabilization (Others would argue otherwise!) I have been made woefully aware that my system would appear to be ageing again. With that I mind could I ask for any suitable suggestions for upgrade, Im hoping the CPU etc will last a while longer, so im thinking more GFX etc.

Here is my current build ;
  • Asus ATI Radeon HD 6950 DirectCU II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-E
Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
    Asus P8Z68-V PRO Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
    Corsair Obsidian 650D
Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive
    Corsair Hydro H80i
Corsair Enthusiast Series TX 650W V2 High Performance '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
    Corsair Vengeance Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
    Windows 8.1 currently!

Thanks in advance for any recommendations! (Budget is flexible)

As RJ said your system is still got a lot of power, im currently still running a 2500k too. :)

As said id grab a 280x if your budget allows. This will be a good upgrade.

If you havnt already I suggest getting a good overclock on your 2500k too.. Your cooler will handle it. :)

Thanks for your prompt feedback guys. The 280x seems well reviewed. Would it be worth the extra silver to go to a 290- range card or is the performance differences unjustified?

I'm not sure at what point the rest of my setup would become a bottleneck?

Again, thanks for the advice.

If your budget allows it then yes the 290 will give you a good boost over a 280x(which is/was a rebadged 7970 which has been out for 1-2years now, I read that amd were going to be changing/updating the 280x or something but I could be wrong), currently the best 290(according to gibbo) is the sapphire 290 tri-x but that is currently out if stock with the next best(and slightly cheaper option) being the msi gaming edition(£350 till Wednesday morning when the price will go back up to ~£370, it's currently on this week only offer).

Edit: well it seems the sapphire 290 tri-x is in stock and is currently only £10 or so more than the msi.
