Hi guys,

My friend is looking to upgrade his pc as he wants something a little bit faster, he mainly plays ARMA and a few other fps titles.

His current spec, is a Intel Q9550 12mb cache, 8gb ram, HD 8750, Asus P5Q Deluxe.

He has a budget of £250-£270 and plays at 1080p, would i be right in saying for the budget he would probably be better off to upgrade his MB and cpu as his gfx card still should have allot of life left at this resolution?

Or keep the current MB and cpu and buy a new gfx card?

For example i was going to suggest the below AMD spec to him -

-AMD FX8320 Black Edition 8 Core
-Asus M5A99FX PRO R2
- with the rest of the cash get him a new SSD drive

Cheers

:) yes sorry, that's the one 7850!

That MB is a good price, they pretty much spec'd the same? I know i he will never need cross etc.

That gigabyte is basically the same as the 990X PRO. a lot cheaper too.

I was thinking a Arctic Cooling Freezer A30 for cooler.

There are better coolers for £30

Matterhorn Pure: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-037-AL
AR01: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-007-SV

The AR01 is out of stock :(

Like the look of the Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure edition , i fitted a Alpenföhn Matterhorn CPU Cooler Rev. B a few months back and that was very well made.

If down the line he was to sell the HD7850 OC and upgrade would a Rx270/280 be worth it for 1080p?

Thank you for the advice :)

The 270X is great for 1080p but not a MASSIVE upgrade over a 7850. The 280X is on the line of too good for 1080p but a huge improvement over the 7850.
