Hello,

Please can anyone give me a pointer to an upgrade to my radeon 7850?
I only play games on my pc and have an I5 2500K

I now have £200 to spend on a decent upgrade to that card if there is one!

Any ideas?

thanks a lot

Hi,

What case do you have? what PSU do you have?

Reason I ask is to make sure a GFX card will fit inside the case and that you have a good enough PSU to run a better card.

You will probably want something from nvidia such as a GTX770.

I'd start at the other end - what are you finding doesn't run well enough now on your 7850?

Also, what speed is your 7850 running at, likewise your 2500k. How much RAM do you have, what OS are you using, what driver, what is it you expect this upgrade to get you, all the usual suspects!

Hi,

BitFenix Merc Beta Gaming Case
OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply

I think there is something wrong with my card to be fair, and my friend said i should think about getting an 280X - someone else mentioned a r290 but i have purchased a 144hz monitor so only have that amount left!

thanks

You may want to budget £10 for an additional case fan too, bigger cards= more heat.

Hello sorry i missed your post,

My 7850 and I5 are not overclocked, i don't know how to do that or have the confidence to do it... especially when i cant afford to buy a new pc for another year or 2 :( - I am 100% certain that something is wrong with my video card, started to make a funny rattle noise randomly.. no idea what it is.

Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel

Latest beta drivers for 7850
An extra fan inside my case
120GB SSD
1TB HDD

the monitor i was ordering is out of stock. So i have ordered a 24" one for £100..

I now have around 150-200 at a push for a new video card that will last me 12/24 months with the rest of my machine...

thanks for replying

Overclocking the 7850 is really easy. It should clock very well; just push the slider for the core and memory up in small increments and test. For overclocking the cpu, again the basics are easy. Just enter the bios and set the stock setting (2500K is 3.4ghz?) to something like 4.0 ghz, and check the temperature with something like core temp.
