I am looking into upgrading GPU from a 6950 to a 970 and possibly 2 970s after a month or two. although i dont think my motherboard supports SLI , only crossfire

so i guess ill be needing a new motherboard to sort that out ?
im using a i5-3570k so i am unsure about a motherboard which will be able to use my old cpu as i dont really "need" to upgrade this at the moment i think ?

will i definitley need to upgrade my motherboard for SLI?
will i need to upgrade cpu as well for a new motherboard?

thanks

What board do you have? what are the full system specs?

There are no new Z77 boards instock, so 2nd hand is all you will fine.

If you buy a new Z97 SLI ready board then you will need a new CPU.

Dual GPU sigle card like a 295x2 could be an option.

Obviously means you would have to shell out all the money at once.

Might be crossfire compatible if not SLI compatable, with pci-3, a slot running at 4x might not be the end of the world.

Found some z77 motherboards on competitor still being sold they are asrock ones I'm not familiar with the brand are they alright will they be OK for my setup if I went this route?

Unfortunately not all I can find anywhere are these asrock boards the MSI gigabyte ones are all single card slots only that I can find. I guess the as rock are to be avoided then haha ?

i realise this is an old thread but thought it better to post here than start a new topic.
i found a z77x d3h motherboard for sale for about £90
my current motherboard is the z77d3h if i were to swap in the X version what changes would need to be made ? reinstall OS ? new OS even? as it is OEM any other changes im not thinking about ?

Its the same chipset+drivers, it will be a straight swap.

Just check the BIOS is the latest on it.
