Looking to upgrade from AMD Phenom II 550 BE, Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P, with 4Gb of Corsair RAM.

Don't game usually just surfing and youtubing which current machine copes fine.

Reason for upgrading is that it struggles to run VM's. Have unlocked the additional 2 cores but it just isn't stable
enough to run VM's. Could also do with upping the memory to 8 or 16Gb.

Have always had AMD processors but leaning towards Intel this time, with the i5 4690K, i7 4790k, or even a Xeon in mind though could be swayed to stick with AMD and stick a 8 core 8350 in existing motherboard if possible.

Don't really have a budget in mind but not looking to spend more than I have to.

Have the following parts to re-use:

Antec 300 case
(Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P)
(Corsair XMS3 2 x 2Gb DDR3)
Artic Freezer 7 Pro
Corsair HX 650W Pro Series PSU
Sapphire Radeon HD 5750 1Gb
Samsung 1TB SATA drive
DVD RW

A definite upgrade is Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD for Windows and Programs.

Another requirement would be to run a bit quieter.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Would the 4690k with it's 4 cores be enough for running say at a couple of vm's or would I be better off with the 4790k?

Take on board the recommendation for 16gb of memory.

Would it be worth waiting for the 6600k and 6700k to come out in August and pair with ddr4 memory?

Waited for the new processors to come on before deciding on the following:

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail
Asrock Z170 Extreme6 Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
Samsung 850 EVO Series mSATA 250GB SATA 6Gbps Solid State Drive

building using existing Antec 300 case and Corsair HX 650W Pro Series PSU.

Looking for advice on heatsink and memory.

Heatsink needs to be relatively quiet. Not bothered about mega overclocking to not looking for watercooling.

As for memory looking at 16Gb and DDR4 but not sure what to go for other than it needs to be dual channel.
