Morning

I am currently running a pre-oc setup that was bought quite a few years ago.

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard

Memory - Patriot PVT36G1600ELK Viper I Tri Channel DDR3
DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
Timing 9-9-9-24
Cas Latency 9
Voltage 1.65V

My trusty setup is still running good and problem free. So not looking to swap the mobo etc just yet. Was looking for a little more memory. Unfortunately they dont make the Patirot Vipers no more so cant add any sticks to my existing setup.

Looking for some Memory replacement recommendation where i can just swap without too much hassle. Currently running triple kit of (3 x 2Gb) = 6GB total. I should be able to replace with any new memory of similar specs right? Any recommendations at all?

Thanks
Kyo

Google....

Corsair CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB (3 x 4GB) DDR3 Vengeance Memory

£81 on the rainforest.

Edit, can remove heat spreader if too tall

Was able to get 3 x 4gb = 12gb corsair Vengeance and system working fine :)

Seems a shame I got 3 slots free on my mobo. Should I try to plug my old 3 x 2gb Patriot memory to boost it to 18gb. The old memory is the same typ, timing and speed etc. It just a different brand or is that not a good idea Will it damage it if i try?

Scouring around the net seems to suggest i should be ok to using the 2 triple channels kits as despite being different makes, the timing, speed and type are the same.

As long as i put the ram in the correct slots.

ie Corsair in slots 1,3,5 and my old Patriots in 2,4,6.

so should total to 18gb and not lose any performance in bandwidth and still be benefitting triple channel?

Is this correct?

No as patriot memory modules are 2gb and the corsair ones are 4gb. Advise is to stick to same module sizes speeds timings etc. It will work but I'm sure that performance will suffer here. Maybe sell your patriots and get another corsair kit to use.
