Hi,

I've recently started to have some annoying issues such as random crashes/freezes, inability to reliably run SLi, blue/black screens of death.

I'm fairly technical and have tried a lot to resolve the issues, also support from MSI / NV hasn't really got me anywhere. I'm starting to suspect Mobo or RAM as being at fault (although Memtest usually runs fine for 24 hours+).

I have a Z87-G45 & i7 4770k, 32GB Corsair DDR3. (same stuff as sig)

If I'm going about replacing now, what should I get? I game on occasion and I like to have as much available memory as possible as I run a lab in VMware for learning and work.

I'm torn between something like a top X99 or going to the new Z170.

Any advice welcome as always.

I wouldn't do either and would get a Z97 board instead. The 4770k isn't going to struggle with anything anytime soon. Have you tried increasing the memory controller voltage (not sure what it's called on MSI boards) as you are running 4x sticks.

Hadn't thought of changing in the same family tbh, not a bad idea.

I'll look into the voltage, see what the options are. Thanks!

Is the system and gpu's overclocked? May be psu related if so. Also what are the error codes for the blue screens you are getting.

Nothing is OC'd, just stock, but maybe some extra voltage in places would help.

3b is usually a lack of vcore. Try increasing a notch or two.

1a memory management is usually a bad stick of ram or lack of dram voltage. As you have run memtest and found no problems try increasing dram voltage a notch or two and the memory controller voltage by the same. Not sure what it's called though. It maybe IO or SA voltages but you may want to wait for someone to confirm this.
