Firstly, Merry Christmas to you all!

I'm after some thoughts/advice on upgrading my current PC.

Currently running: -

i7 930 2.80GHz
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
Corsair XMS3 6GB
EVGA SuperNova G2 850W '80 Plus Gold' PSU
HIS HD 7950 IceQ
F3 500GB
Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB
Coolermaster CM-690 II
Windows 7 Pro (64bit)
Samsung B2430H
BenQ GL2450

Considering what I currently have I thought I'd go ahead and upgrade my GPU to begin with as this can be used with a newer MB at a later date. I'm thinking of going with GeForce GTX Gaming Edition 4096MB

What I'm not too sure about is which direction to go with regarding the MB and newer Processor. I'm not at all confident in Overclocking, otherwise I would have probably gone ahead with my current i7.

I'm not in any great rush to do this, thought I'd pick away at it over the next 6 - 8 months, although the GPU I will do by the end of January.

So my question is, what do you guys think I should consider when it comes to the MB/Chip?

Look forward to reading your replies.

Regards

Do you have an SSD? Definitely recommend grabbing one if not.

I'd definitely look into overclocking. If you plan on replacing the kit then why not? Everyone started knowing nothing thinking it's some mystical super hard magic but it's not long before you know what settings do what and how everything works.

If new then Devils Canyon, Skylake and Haswell-E are all worth considering. Haswell-E will almost certainly last the longest.

Hi,

No, I don't have an SSD.

I'll have a look into these, I presume they're primarily to boot from with the OS installed on them?

Whilst browsing the OcUK site I did stumble across this bundle which caught my eye: -

DEFCON 3x - Gigabyte Bundle

Regarding your suggestion on having a go at overclocking my current setup, I'll do some digging around/research and might consider it.

Regards

That bundle is definitely a good one - a bit more than buying all the parts but not much and the 3 year warranty with 2 year collect and return is worth it.

But it would be a crime to not run it off an SSD :D

Get a skylake bundle unless you are doing encoding.

If you going for a whole system i'd also shoot for a M2 SSD which will not be backwards compatible with your board such as the samsung 950.

Totally agree

Thanks both for your thoughts and replies.

Currently in my Wish List: -

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £999.94
(includes shipping: £0.00)

Will chip away at this config, with the card being the first purchase.

Thanks & Regards
